Public opinion

It is said that this term first appeared in Rousseau's Du Contrat Social(On the Social Contract). Public opinion can be said to be integration of general opinions in the process from formation to transformation and extinction&sbquo and in particular those that are controversial. It is considered that there are three approaches to this term: historical&sbquo empirical and socio-psycological. The historical approach tells us that it's an important term in the theory of political rule&sbquo as it can be associated with the ancient Roman phrase&sbquo "The voice of the people is the iovce of God." It also became clear&sbquo however&sbquo that people's mindsand politics do not necessarily agree. This gave rise to the demand for the socio-psycological approach. From that point of view&sbquo it can be said that the problems in forming and judging public opinions&sbquo such as information control and mass-communication management&sbquo became highlighted due to the advancement of the information society. In this age of advanced capitalism and our high-density information society in particular&sbquo public opinion can instantly change the international situation&sbquo not only promoting deversity in people's minds but also causing confusion. It has reached the point that various media are controling the formation of public opinion. In design&sbquo the essence is to appeal to people's minds&sbquo which has become its professional foundation. Therefore&sbquo this foundation must be rebuilt as the essential core of design to resurrect "public opinion as the true voice of people's minds&sbquo" through theoretical verification and empirical pursuit.
