Recreation

It is a concept close to leisure&sbquo and the two overlap in meaning. Leisure is a behavioral concept born of a background of economic affluence. Recreation(derived from a Latin word recrenare)&sbquo on the other hand&sbquo literally means to "re-create&sbquo" and is a concept that includes amusement and entertainment in order to refresh and rejuvenate oneself mentally and physically. It originally started from the definition by the educator Comenius&sbquo meaning a break between classes at school. This was a major factor in establishing adequate time allocation of study and rest at school. From there&sbquo it was extended to include rest and vacation from labor. With the progress of capitalism&sbquo it is thought that a confusion occurred with leisure in the process of promoting environmental improvement and rest from monotonous and inhumane labor. The clear difference from leisure&sbquo as stated in Le droit ? la paresse (by Paul Lafargue)&sbquo is that recreation has become a global system and right in labor. That is&sbquo in labor and education&sbquo the setting and allocation of time for achieving parity in maintaining mental and physical health&sbquo as well as experiencing enjoyment and pleasure&sbquo has been socially acknowledged. Due to this&sbquo recreation has evolved and expanded into a vital and institutional factor for the sound growth of youth and unity of the community.
In light of this&sbquo the initiative of design to develop&sbquo reinforce&sbquo and support gamelike qualities to make recreation itself active&sbquo and create an environment including tools and devices that generates recreation&sbquo is being demanded. In other words&sbquo production&sbquo consumption&sbquo and even disposal and recycling related to education and labor will become subjects of design.
