Lifestyle

It is generally accepted that the word lifestyle was brought to Japan with the postwar Allied Occupation forces. While it has completely become a Japanese word&sbquo its definition has been changing. It was first translated as seikatsu yoshiki in the context of western lifestyle and Japanese lifestyle. Later&sbquo when the Japanese started to freely select their own lifestyles&sbquo it become linked to the person's consumption behavior&sbquo ant then by political interest and leisure activities as well. Max Weber once advocated a concept of status and economical order. He claimed that the consumption of assets is regulated by presentation of social statues or a particular life behavior. The definition of lifestyle today is considered to be carrying Weber's concept at least as the source with an extended and expanded interpretation. I think it is acceptable to define lifestyle based on individuals' patterns in tastes for daily consumption commodities. Moreover&sbquo the structure of the minority are becoming difficult to predict&sbquo this can be re-phrased as "diversification of lifestyles" as in "diversification of tastes" and "diversification of consumption behaviors."
I&sbquo however&sbquo think that as a result of changes in the awareness of values in individuals brought by changes in the structure of production and consumption&sbquo each individual is determining her lifestyle by re-evaluation her own social status. In other words&sbquo I believe that rather than individual taste and economical reality&sbquo it will be value judgment based on life environment&sbquo local community and generational discretion that will soon transform capitalism itself and relatively change even lifestyles.
