Looks

Lukkusu corresponds to such translations as appearance&sbquo facial features&sbquo featuresand attractiveness. Good looks have become an important element in such professions as acting and entertainment.Tthere is an extremely simplistic criterion that says a person is "judged by her appearance(looks)&sbquo" and it goes to the core of what determines first impressions. In other words&sbquo the term looks has been used extremely superficially to mean how things simply appear. It has&sbquo however&sbquo a more profound meaning than superficial appearance. There is an expression kiryo-yoshi (attractive) used for woman&sbquo but the world kiryo (caliber&sbquocapacity of a receptacle) extends to the depth of one's mind and quality of personality. It's not just appearance. Similarly&sbquo the yo in naiyo that means "content"&sbquo and has a deeper meaning as it originally means the "shape of mind"&sbquo and the "strength and capacity of the mind." In design&sbquo there is still a misunderstanding to the effect that "designing is creating external appearance = creating good appearance and favorable impression." However &sbquo I believe that all designers are aware that this is a grave misunderstanding. When evaluating a design&sbquo the word looks used as superficial appearance has no weight at all&sbquo and I believe it should not be used. The words yobo and kiryo express the more profound conceptual and international essence and meaning in design. If I had to define what a design with good looks is&sbquo I'd say it is an exterior appearance that truly envelops beauty&sbquo justice and virtue.
