Image

The original sense of the word image that we use in design language is "a visually apprehended form." This sense&sbquo however&sbquo is shifting towards "mental representation" with a sensory interpretation. Since image corresponds to Greek words eikon (icon) and phantasma(fantasy)&sbquo its meaning doesen't end with the material renditions of mental images&sbquo or the products of the imagination&sbquo visions and daydreams&sbquo but expands to encompass the sensory qualities of the five senses&sbquo such as hearing&sbquo taste and touch. For instance&sbquo we cansay images are sensory impressions that extend to ideas and concepts&sbquo and since such impressions are just sensory excitement or subjective&sbquo they tend to be superficial. They become shared illusions that have incorporated social Influences and the concepts of the age as acquired through the sensibility and ideology of each individual. It is this that forms the image we call a "world view." Image in design ca be thought of as part of the cognitive procedure in postulating concepts or establishing ideas. For that reason it is an important element in forming "understanding" in design&sbquo as seen in the use of the words "image sketch." Ina design concept is a method that aims to form a world view that unifies the things that can be seen and events that come into sight as subjects that cognize the design and objects that are cognized&sbquo so that the individual designer can universalize his or her understanding. With the feeling of connection or separation between image and concept treated as an imagerelated and sensory kind of intelligence&sbquo the designer proposes the concept "image = imagination." But when the image from the designer is not shared&sbquo the generalization and universalization (which comprise congnition) of the design or of the design concept and idea willnot occur. This originates in a world view being formed by the concept "illusion = image" in human feelings and knowlidge. In particular&sbquo it originates in the physical exfoliation and forfeiture of nature and events&sbquo brought about by our transforming them into data (information) such as film&sbquo photographs and virtual expressions. Accordingly&sbquo design embraces the problem of civilized behavior that will undertake a resuscitation and reconstruction of images.
