Environment

"Environment" started as a technical term field Biology in time It became a commonly used word in sociology and psychology. Accordingly&sbquo it's wise to assume that there are slight differences between the word "environment" in English and its counterpart "kankyo" in japanese. As suggested by the Japanese characters&sbquo the word&sbquo makes us conscious of a place where a subject is encircled by a border. It refers to a situation in which the place includes everything up to the very borders that surround the subject But in English the environment includes everything that exists in relation to that subject&sbquo such as the state of its surroundings&sbquo things and events&sbquo conditions and circumstances in relation to the subject&sbquo "kankyo" can be grasped as an objective condition&sbquo and if "kankyo" is taken to be the subject it's possible to apprehend it as the elements and factors comprising it. Accordingly&sbquo it has significance as a term when we have to ask for the nature of the subject . Whether the subject is an organism or a human being&sbquo the subject is an organism or a human being&sbquo the subject itself influences the environment and has the ability to adapt to the influences exerted by the environment The problem is the generation of environmental problems&sbquo the occurrence of changes&sbquo degeneration&sbquo an all out collapse that would destroy the ability of the subject to adapt&sbquo in our age the transformation of environmental problems into social problems has become frequent&sbquo and we must consider environmental design as part of the domain of social design rather than as part of such narrow endeavors as the design of scenery and the design of building environs Recently&sbquo attention is being placed of domains that focus on the environment. Such as environmental design studies and environmental designers . The most important task now is to perform a critical reexamination of the differences between the definition of "kankyo" and its English translation environment."
