Editing

Editing originally meant a series of work stages from planning&sbquo preparation&sbquo organization&sbquo layout and proofreading of articles to binding when publishing books&sbquo magazines and newspapers. Its meaning later expanded to include expressive methods in the media&sbquo and layout and arrangement work of communicative materials as well as concepts including expressive intentions and ideas and principles in the media. Editing became a profession after the Meiji Period and the establishment of modern publishing&sbquo and soon the relationship and distinction between the author and editor became clear owing to the development of modern journalism. Systematization of the engineering of editing or study of editing is envisioned to be heading towards editing knowledge or the study of editing intellectual knowledge thanks to the advancement of the information society. It has even come to a point that the editor and media producer are integrated in giving birth to a new profession called the "educer" today. Needless to say&sbquo in regards to the collaboration between editing and design&sbquo it is also possible that the profession of the designer will shift towards that profession. Although I think the study of information and planning is the closest to the field that comprises the study of editing&sbquo from another viewpoint the study of editing is actually very close to design methodology. This is because when the media becomes the subject of design&sbquo everything from medium format&sbquo expression&sbquo contents&sbquo index and even the context is included in the realm of design.
