Originating in the branding of cattle&sbquo the word has come to mean a label or trade-mark A trademark is a mark that clearly expresses and manifests product value The mark itself became a criterion for classifying value and making selections in a capitalist economy That is&sbquo a trademark that prioritizes possessive value rather than utility value is now called a brand This is the emergence of a trend towards reading a product's association with its maker's policy and philosophy rather than looking at the product's content This is the result of an attempt to differentiate a product from those of competitors by imparting it with identity&sbquo an approach that is called brand strategy. This marketing strategy requires the fabrication of a semiotic meaning that guarantees by appealing to sensibility&sbquo superiority&sbquo and traditional quality&sbquo and has become a sort of a fashionable boom While a trademark is a mere visual mark&sbquo a brand extends to the meaning of the trademark In other words&sbquo the brand should be thought as a type of product semiotics for establishing a symbolic icon that includes everything from visual iconicity to a history that endorses product quality assurance Today&sbquo however&sbquo due to the meaning of icon&sbquo it has become associated with a selective conscience of brand orientation&sbquo and tends towards a selective criterion for a life course that includes not only selection of products but also schools in which to enroll&sbquo workplaces to join&sbquo and marriage The relationship between design and brand does not merely stop at viewing a brand as an object of design Not only that&sbquo design covers the role from creating the icon that forms the brand to its very presentation That is&sbquo the design that is re-quired is not only of the brand as a trademark but also a design that induces and forms fashionability and fetishism The role of the designer is to expand the methodology and embodiment of brand design as a cultural strategy liberated from facile marketing strategy.
